PRINCE GEORGE- No injuries reported, but a possible explosion caused some $50,000 damage at an industrial wood pellet manufacturing facility in the 9900 block of Willow Cale Road around 5 last night .Fire crews found a small amount of smoke coming from a conveyor system and quickly applied water to several conveyors which had smoldering wood material inside.

Over the last couple of years, there have been a few calls to the Pacific Bioenergy location. It is something the company is aware of and they say it’s a work in progress.

“We are working on a number of improvements. We recently had a week’s worth of an annual maintenance shutdown where we completed some additional capital improvements and a lot of that went into safety improvements,” said Pacific Bioenergy President & CEO, John Stirling. “It’s an ongoing effort. The system is quite sophisticated and as we are learning about new technologies to detect and prevent issues from happening, we’re applying those.”

There were no missed shifts following the incident, and Stirling expects the plant to be operational toward the end of the week.
