In late 1957 George Creuzot, Tom Wright, Bill Robertson, and Dick Foxcroft met to discuss the advantages of having an organization to represent both the builders, and the trades. After much discussion and deliberation The Prince George Contractor’s Association was formed on February 14, 1958 with Creuzot serving as its first president.

The association set out with three primary goals:

  • To bring builders and trades together
  • To bring more stabilization to the building community
  • To bring more recognition to membership as a whole

In 1962 the association merged with another organization, The Prince George Builder’s Exchange, and in 1964 was renamed The Prince George Home Builder’s Association. After a handful of name changes in between the association adopted its current name: The Canadian Home Builders’ Association — Northern BC (CHBA-NBC).

Nowadays there are CHBA chapters all over Canada with over 8000 members in total.

The Canadian Home Builders’ Association — Northern BC membership includes new home builders, renovators, developers, trades, manufactures, suppliers, lenders and other professionals related to the residential construction industry. Members commit to act with integrity and professionalism in all aspects of their company’s operations.

The association is also committed to a long tradition of educating and guiding the general public on topics such as renovation, home building, and more. Nowhere is this commitment showcased more than at the CHBA Home and Garden Show. The association held its first home show in 1978, and the tradition is still going strong over 40 years later. 2018’s home show featured hundreds of vendors and a wide variety of resources all under one roof. Visitors learned tips and trade secrets about owning and maintaining a safe, healthy, and enjoyable living space regardless of age, life stage, or life style. Major features included the Rona KuttThroat Construction Competition and the Stor-X Crappy Closet Contest.

The CHBA-NBC has grown from humble roots to become an organization with the man power and ability to provide high quality services from professionals that are committed to industry excellence. Through the Association, members have access to technical information as well as specialized education and training courses. CHBA also promotes a members’ code of ethics that requires high standards in customer relations and business practices.
