Canfor To Make Cuts In Fourth Quarter 2018

VANCOUVER – Canfor Corporation will be reducing its operations in its BC sawmills due to log supply constraints, log costs and current market conditions.

The company says it will reduce BC production by about 10 percent in the fourth quarter of the year.

Lumber production will be reduced over the quarter through decreased operating days. It will be achieved through immediate short-term cutbacks at some facilities, as well as extended downtime at Christmas.

“We have made the difficult decision to curtail our BC sawmill operations over the fourth quarter due to log supply challenges following another difficult wildfire season, uncompetitive log costs and declining lumber prices,” said Don Kayne, President and Chief Executive Officer. “We are working to mitigate impacts on our employees as much as possible.”
