CHETWYND — One person is dead following a pickup truck and pedestrian collision.

RCMP Sgt. Janelle Shoihet says the incident occurred at around 5:30 p.m. Friday (Dec.21) night on Highway 97 around 40 kilometres north of Chetwynd.

“Initial investigation leads police to believe the pedestrian was struck by a northbound pickup truck while he was attempting to cross Highway 97 from the southbound lane where he had been dropped off by another vehicle,” she says. “The pedestrian, a 76-year-old from Dawson Creek, was transported to a local area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.”

Shoihet says while the investigation is ongoing, alcohol is not believed to be a contributing factor.
