PRINCE GEORGE — The North District RCMP has launched a homicide investigation after the body of a 40-year-old Prince George man was discovered out near West Lake.

Cpl. Madonna Saunderson says police received a report of a person lying in the ditch along West Lake Estates Road, off Blackwater Road, at around 1:30 p.m. last Saturday (Jan.12).

“The BC RCMP’s North District Major Crime Unit was called in and assumed conduct of the investigation,” she says. “Investigators are treating this death as a homicide.”

Just three hours prior to the body being discovered, Saunderson says police received a report of a vehicle fire on Chilako Station Road, off Highway 16 in the Beaverly area. The vehicle appeared to be abandoned.

“Police are attempting to determine if there is a connection between the abandoned vehicle fire and the homicide,” she says. “Investigators are asking anyone with information about suspicious vehicles or persons on West Lake Estates Road, Blackwater Road, Lower Mud River Road, Chilako Station Road or McBride Timber Road on the morning of Jan.12, to please contact police.”
