VANDERHOOF – Tomorrow will be a big day for residents of Vanderhoof. The new Vanderhoof Aquatic Centre is throwing its doors open to the public. The $12-million facility came in under budget though not quite on schedule.

The facility boasts a 6-lane lap pool, a 1,500 square foot leisure pool and a 35-person hot tub as well as a sauna.

Mayor Gerry Thiessen did an impromptu tour of the pool today and says it’s still had to believe.

“It’s one thing to know and to sign the contract, as the mayor, for a pool to be built. It’s another thing, totally, to be here physically.”

A new addition is a climbing wall, to make up for the lack of a diving board, which would have added $1 million to the bottom line.

The District is letting members of the public a chance to dip their toes in “shifts” tomorrow in order to accommodate all those who want to check it out.
Residents are urged to swing by in the morning to sign up for their chance to get in.
