PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Cougars have fired head coach Richard Matvichuk.

The news comes in the wake of the team’s 11th straight loss to the Vancouver Giants last night, 4-3 in overtime.

Matvichuk was in the final year of a three-year contract with the club. The team won the B.C. Division in his first year behind the bench, but that was followed up with a first-round loss to the Portland Winterhawks.

The Cats missed the playoffs last year and currently sit last in the B.C. Division with a 16-30-4-2 record.
