The UNBC Timberwolves women's basketball team accomplished a program first Friday night winning a Canada West playoff game over the Trinity Western University Spartans 80-78.

It was a back and forth game all night as the two teams traded holding the lead throughout the game. The first half saw the TWolves with a slight 39-34 edge over the Spartans.

The third quarter saw the Spartans outscore the TWolves 24-15 to take a 58-54 lead into the final frame. In the fourth quarter, it was again back and forth before the Timberwolves eventually pulled away from the Spartans for the first ever Canada West playoff win in program history.

Maria Mongomo led the way for the TWolves with a game-high 29 points on 10-16 shooting while Madison Landry chipped in with 17 points of her own.

The Spartans were led by Tessa Ratzlaff who had 20 points and eight rebounds.

The Timberwolves will now get ready for next weekend when they take on either the Saskatchewan Huskies or Calgary Dinos in the Canada West quarterfinals.
