PRINCE GEORGE – The Steelworkers Union, Local 1-2017, is reporting early success in the ratification vote with members of the CONIFER group. That is the employer bargaining group that represent 13 mills across the region. Back on February 13th, the union tentatively ratified a five-year contract, which includes wage increases two percent in each of the first four years and two and a half percent in the last year.
The union is reporting that the deal has been ratified by members in Tolko’s Soda Creek and Questwood operations, Conifex in Fort. St. James, Babine in Burns Lake, Dunkley Lumber, Canfor’s Isle Pierre operation and its chip plant.
President of the union, Brian O-Rourke, says voting will continue likely through to the end of the month.
