PRINCE GEORGE — The Province has launched its first poverty reduction strategy called Together BC.

Its goals are to reduce poverty by 25% and cut child poverty in half in the next five years. The strategy is anchored by initiatives like the BC Child Opportunity Benefit and Childcare BC. Using a baseline from 2016, the government hopes to lift 140-thousand people out of poverty, including 50-thousand children.

Target areas for the strategy focus on housing, family, and opportunity supports for people living in poverty, but the BC Liberals have taken issue over how today’s launch will actually address poverty.
