The Spruce Kings are rolling through the BCHL playoffs right now. After being off for 10 days after a sweep of the defending national Jr. A champions, the Kings were back in action last night against the Victoria Grizzlies.

The Kings opened the scoring late in the first with a goal from Dylan Anhorn, his third of the postseason. Patrick Cozzi and Corey Cunningham picked up the assists on the only goal of the opening period.

The second period saw much more scoring as five goals would be scored in the middle frame. The Kings wasted no time in adding to their lead as Patrick Cozzi scored his first goal of the playoffs 10 seconds into the second. Ben Poisson then got his ninth of the playoffs 11 seconds after Cozzi to stretch the Kings lead to 3-0 with two goals in 21 seconds to start the middle frame.

Corey Cunningham would make it 4-0 Kings seven minutes into the second but the Grizzlies would stop the bleeding there and start to claw back. Right at the halfway point in the game, the Grizzlies would get one back from Alexander Campbell with the assist going to Alex Newhook.

With just over five minutes to go in the second Victoria’s Cameron Thompson cut the Kings lead in half to 4-2 with his fourth from Marty Westhaver.

4-2 would end up being the final score after a scoreless third period. Corey Cunningham and Patrick Cozzi collected a goal and an assist each for the Kings while Logan Neaton stopped 25 of the 27 shots he faced for his ninth win of the playoffs.

Kurtis Chapman stopped 36 of the 40 shots he faced for the Grizzlies in the loss. The Spruce Kings have now won six games in a row and are 9-1 in 10 games so far through the playoffs.

Game two of the series goes tonight at the Rolling Mix at 7 p.m.
