Hosting special events are important to the quality of life in every community. Hosting events in Prince George’s downtown gives us the opportunity to enhance and celebrate culture, showcase talent and gather people together for a positive experience. Downtown Prince George wants to celebrate the vibrancy of our downtown by inviting the community to join the fun. With the support of generous public and private supporters, Prince George’s downtown is host to several great seasonal events.

In Prince George, we are privileged to experience all four seasons, although there are times when Mother Nature makes it difficult to recognize. You can count on Downtown Prince George to make sure everyone will know exactly when we are right in the middle of winter. The annual Downtown Winterfest event invites everyone to “Come Celebrate Winter”. This is an event where the whole family can embrace the cold with a variety of fun winter activities for all ages.

In 2019 on Sunday, February 10th, Canada Games Plaza and the surrounding grounds will be transformed into an ultimate winter playground. Even if Sunday is a frosty day, downtown will be the hot spot from 11 am to 4 pm. You can warm your tummy with delicious SMORES while supporting local charities as part of the THERE’S S’MORE DOWNTOWN contest. This fun contest features many creative versions of that delicious campfire treat. You can also warm your heart by joining in on the SNOW ZUMBA or giving SNOW GOLF a try. And… warm up your muscles by joining a few of our very own minor hockey clubs in a fun game of ROAD HOCKEY. We are pleased to welcome the Northern Capitals, the Midget AA Team & Minor Midgets who will join you for some fun stick handling throughout the day. This year we have more opportunity to come inside, out of the cold with several indoor activities. You can check out the WINTER MARKET hosted in the Lobby of the Prince George Civic and Conference Centre, featuring fabulous exhibitors and local merchants who will be offering a little something for everyone.

When you come to Downtown Winterfest, you will experience a spectacular display of snow and ice art that will leave you awestruck. Our award-winning sculpture artist, Peter Vogelaar, assembles a team of artists who will create our very own downtown winter wonderland, including an ice slide! It’s literally so ‘cool’ to see all ages enjoying the thrill of the slide! The collaboration with many community partners rounds out the day with SNOW MUCH FUN and a variety of activities taking place inside and outside.

And then …summer just isn’t summer until you have attended Downtown Summerfest. That’s when we invite everyone to, ‘Take to The Streets’! This year you should follow the crowds heading to Downtown Summerfest on Sunday, July 14th from 11 am to 5 pm. You don’t need a better excuse to hang out with your friends and family in Prince George’s downtown. At the Canada Games Plaza, you will find great food, live entertainment, exciting activities, fascinating vendors and literally…something for everyone!

Everywhere you look, at Downtown Summerfest, there will be people smiling, enjoying incredible food and just being social. The Taste Pavilion introduces festival goers to local restaurants with masterful chefs who spend months deciding which two items will tantalize your taste buds the most. The aroma of delicious food fills the air with so many tasty sample size food items that there is no doubt you must be sure to bring along your appetite.

The music on the Mainstage has people tapping their feet and clapping their hands to the beat. The downtown streets are alive with laughter and ‘extraordinary’ is what you get. Fun just has a way of happening in the Community Kidz Zone. It’s always entertaining to see the delight on the faces of the passengers, big and small, riding the Cottonwood Express mini rail. Even the animals from Black Spruce Petting Farm love the attention and the treats from all the kids. The whole family will thank you for making Downtown Summerfest part of your weekend plans.

Many downtown businesses want in on the action and you are bound to see more events and activities during Downtown Summerfest weekend. On Saturday, July 13th, we are looking forward to another CrossRoads Brewing Street Festival that will bring a family-friendly outdoor theme to George Street during the day and an adult-oriented party atmosphere in the evening. Our downtown retail and restaurant scene will be ready for your shopping and eating pleasures. If you live in Prince George, don’t leave town or if you are visiting from out of town, be sure to come downtown.

Downtown also introduces the Christmas Season to downtown with Plaid Friday, a relaxing and enjoyable alternative to the big box store “Black Friday,” Our focus is on promoting the many local and independently owned businesses during the holiday shopping season. The name, Plaid Friday, was conceived from the idea of weaving the individual threads of small businesses together to create a strong fabric that celebrates the diversity and creativity of independent businesses. In 2019, you can enjoy an opportunity to shop downtown in the evening on Friday, November 22nd. Join us as we get into the holiday spirit with carolers strolling our downtown, festive guests and swag giveaways

The truth is that there is always something happening downtown. From live music at one our restaurants, a great sale at one of our unique shops or a new vendor at the Prince George Farmer’s Market, there is so much to take in. An event calendar on the Downtown Prince George website will help you determine what your next stop in downtown can include.
